Best practices of Lean Six Sigma

More and more organizations use Lean management or Six Sigma to improve their processes. These methods are not only applied in the industrial sector, but they have proven to be very effective in other sectors as well. For example, Lean Six Sigma (LSS) programs are started up by an increasing number of hospitals, banks and municipalities. And with success. It is a logical phenomenon that more organizations want to actively optimize their processes. Company performance is under pressure, because everything has to be better, more efficient and cheaper. However is it really that easy to simply copy all the ‘tricks’ from the industrial sector to other sectors? Isn’t fabricating a tangible product completely different from delivering a service? In this article I will discuss the differences between industrial and non-industrial processes. It seems that LSS has a lot to offer for non-industrial organizations but it calls for a certain degree of re-interpretation. Based on my experience out in the field I will lay out a few best practices for successful application of LLS outside of the industrial sector.

In de brief van minister Donner aan de Tweede Kamer van 20 april 2011 valt te lezen dat het kabinet heeft gekozen ‘voor een aanpak waarbij de mogelijkheden van cloud computing gericht in gesloten vorm worden ingezet met als doel hogere prestaties tegen lagere beheerkosten en een groter gebruikersgemak’.

Hoe businessarchitectuur bijdraagt aan het bereiken van businessdoelen

Stel. U wilt uw klanten beter bedienen, en u vraagt zich af welke aanpassingen daarvoor nodig zijn in producten, processen en informatievoorziening. Of u gaat uw diensten aanbieden samen met uw nieuwe business partner. Wat moet u allemaal regelen voor een naadloze samenwerking?

I am more and more convinced about the following:

1. Enterprise Architecture is not about architecture. Hardly at all.
2. Enterprise Architects do not architect, let alone the enterprise.

Putting this up front, this post is likely to be a bit longer one as I can foresee as it deserves a bit of reasoning behind the statements. But feel free to leave now as I made my point: ) Nevertheless, I hope you won’t get bored.

Modellen van informatievoorziening en technologie

Het opstellen van architecturen kost vaak te veel tijd, waardoor projecten worden vertraagd en organisaties besluiten om (deels) zonder architectuur te ontwikkelen. Het is daarom belangrijk dit architectuurontwerpproces te versnellen; referentie-architecturen zijn daarbij een belangrijk instrument. Referentie-architecturen zijn generieke architecturen voor een klasse van systemen gebaseerd op best-practices. IT Foundations and Enterprise Relativity

An approach for defining the IT foundation for an enterprise is investigated in this paper. The main premise is that the foundation of enterprise IT must have sufficient quality before anything can be built on top of it. Another premise is that such a foundation can consist of a portfolio of services supporting the implementation independent essence of the enterprise. Our proposed Smart SOA approach addresses the definition of such a service portfolio in a practical way, by only capturing those services for which a business case exists. In our Smart SOA method no organizational boundaries are used. Instead a service portfolio is defined based on an enterprise whose boundaries are determined by a service business case.
