This thesis concludes the master research that I have carried out at the research group
for Information Retrieval and Information Systems under supervision of prof. dr. Daan
Rijsenbrij. The research project has been carried out over a period of 6 months, from
September 2004 until the end February 2005.
The goal of this research project was to identify the main principles of an adaptive
enterprise. Several providers of IT services have started adaptive enterprise programs to
show the world how they think an enterprise should become flexible and agile. These
programs have functioned as important input for the research project. Another category
of input has been the experiences of organisations with characteristics of an adaptive
enterprise in practice.
