Atos Origin - Service Oriented Architecture: Beyond the Hype
A Service Oriented Architecture (SOA ) is an architecture style whose principles of modularization offer a proven way of managing the complexity of systems and IT landscapes. SOA has become the most appropriate style for solutions that solve key different business issues such as agility, cost reduction and compliancy.

Since SOA is being massively supported by the IT industry, SOA enabling technology will come to dominate the IT landscapes in the same way that Internet technology and client server solutions did previously. However, the real benefits of SOA will only be reached if organizations adopt SOA as an Enterprise Architecture approach and in this way bring SOA concepts into practical business solutions.

SOA is a ‘lifestyle change’ and not a new technology solution that can be bought or built. This lifestyle change enables and needs alignment between business and IT, merges innovation and operation processes and blurs the old fashioned distinction between ‘buy’ or ‘build’ software. SOA is now rapidly becoming mature and it is time for organizations to get on the right track and to start making that change of lifestyle.

In this whitepaper Atos Origin explains its vision on SOA and its approach to implementing and managing an SOA. It is primary written for IT managers and Enterprise Architects on the road to SOA adoption.
