NORA, de Nederlandse Overheid Referentie Architectuur, is vooral bedoeld om de samenhang tussen de relatief onafhankelijke overheidsorganisaties te optimaliseren en de organisatieoverschrijdende ketens te borgen. Het zal duidelijk zijn dat een dergelijke architectuur dient te worden gecoördineerd en beheerd. Meestal benoemen we voor deze functie een Chief Architect, maar in dit geval geef ik de voorkeur aan de titel ‘Digitale Rijksbouwmeester’.

Het Business Process Management System trekt steeds meer de aandacht. Maar waarom heeft toepassen van een BPMS nog niet tot de grote successen geleid die menigeen voor ogen stonden? En misschien nog wel belangrijker: hoe valt succes van een BPMS in de toekomst te bewerkstelligen?

Op dit moment herbergt de Verzekeringsmaatschappij Nationale-Nederlanden diverse Lines of Business (LoB’s), die van oudsher zeer product-georiënteerd zijn en met ieder zijn eigen specifieke IT. Momenteel vindt binnen het bedrijf een beweging plaats, waarbij de businessdomeinen binnen en tussen de LoB’s beter worden ingepast binnen de totale informatiestroom. Architectuur speelt bij deze slag, die volgens CIO Ton van der Linden bij heel veel financiële instellingen gemaakt wordt, een belangrijke rol.

This paper is the second in a series in which we intend to shed light on the possibilities of using the ArchiMate language with an architecture method and inform you on the pitfalls you may face. This paper follows up “Using ArchiMate with an Architecture Method”, which outlined some of the fundamental ideas behind ArchiMate and set out nine questions to ask of a method to be used in conjunction with it.

This second paper returns to answer the nine questions we defined in the first paper (to help you integrate the use of ArchiMate with your chosen architecture method) using TOGAF as an example architecture method.

Als het over architectuur gaat begint iedereen over SOA. Jawel, die beruchte Service Oriented Architecture. Ook als de hele klantomgeving een grote monoliet is zoals SAP ERP zal en moet er weer een servicebusje onder. En natuurlijk overal stekkers op basis van open standaarden. Bij NORA struikel je over de bijbehorende geloofsbrieven. Andere geluiden worden niet op prijs gesteld. De nieuwe religie dus.

Wouter Schmitz geeft leiding aan een groep van 17 business- en enterprisearchitecten. Deze groep vormt het ‘Center of Expertise’ voor architectuur bij het gedeelte van ABN AMRO dat in handen is van de Nederlandse staat. Wouter is met zijn team eigenaar van de architectuurmethode en tooling. Tevens supervideert hij de totale architectuurcommunity van alle architecten binnen ABN AMRO. Wouter is verantwoordelijk voor het uitvoeren van de architectuurgovernance binnen de ABN AMRO. Voorts ligt bij hem het beheer van de architectuurkennis en de Current State Architecture, een diepgaand systeemoverzicht van de ABN AMRO organisatie.

Gemeenten staan voor grote uitdagingen bij het inrichten van het Klantcontactcentrum en de midoffice. Op allerlei fronten spelen veranderingen en moeten keuzes gemaakt worden. De auteurs gaan in op de vraagstukken die spelen bij de invoering van het Klantcontactcentrum en de midoffice en doen aanbevelingen om de veranderingen effectief aan te sturen.

The ArchiMate language for enterprise architecture has recently been adopted by The Open Group as a technical standard. This may result in a steep rise in its popularity. However, ArchiMate is only a language and does not prescribe a way of working. Hence, it will be used in combination with some other method to guide the process of architecting. Some assume it will be easy to use ArchiMate when following the process of their preferred architecture method. Indeed, it will be easy to use the ArchiMate box symbols in drawing artifacts/diagrams. Perhaps many will do this, thinking they have thus used the ArchiMate language with their method.

In this article we explore the role of enterprise architecture in knowledge conversion. Enterprise architecture is high level, abstract representation of an enterprise and knowledge conversion is the creation of new knowledge from existing knowledge. Based on a literature research we can conclude that enterprise architecture provides a context for constructive dialogue, makes the concepts that are a result of knowledge conversion explicit and provides explicit knowledge for conversion processes. The role of enterprise architecture is limited due to the nature of the type of knowledge that is captured in enterprise architecture.

Na NORA 1.0 (2006) en NORA 2.0 (2007) werkt ICTU nu aan NORA 3.0. Door de modulaire structuur van deze laatste versie wordt ons beloofd dat het geheel veel overzichtelijker zal worden. Het katern ‘Strategie’ is het eerste document dat nu min of meer klaar is. Dit katern beschouwen de auteurs als de basis voor NORA. Een echt basisdocument is een hele verbetering ten opzichte van NORA 2.0., maar ik begrijp niet waarom het dan niet gewoon basisdocument heet in plaats van strategiekatern. Er is trouwens niets strategisch aan, en het is in feite bedoeld als een ‘verkoopbrochure’ over architectuur voor het topmanagement.

I, typically, start with the standard research, interviews and produce what I call a Single Page Architecture, which in fact has nothing to do with IT. It is a synoptic business architecture which everybody loves. Then I try selling it to business, if left to it, since often the relationship between business and IT is not good or is channelled through a single point of contact which becomes the real bottleneck.

A Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is an architectural style that supports loosely coupled services to enable business flexibility in an interoperable, technology-agnostic manner. SOA adoption can be a solution to integrate the heterogeneous applications in an organization. In a SOA, existing applications are decomposed into application services, and business processes are decomposed into business services. Application services can be reused throughout the organization because their service descriptions are published in a service registry, and they can interact using standards for the exchange of messages. Application services are loosely coupled, and can therefore be orchestrated to automate business processes. By using standards for message exchange, service description and service discovery, functionality residing in different business functions can be composed to automate business processes that span different business functions.

De laatste jaren horen we heel wat griezelverhalen over mislukte projecten bij de gemeente op het gebied van document management systemen (DMS). Ik durf de stelling wel aan dat meer dan de helft van de selectie- en implementatietrajecten voor een DMS bij de gemeenten mislukt dan wel zwaar teleurstelt. Hoe komt dat toch?

In de automatiseringsgids van 30 januari 2009 brak Daan Rijsenbrij een lans voor de architectuuraudit. Een opdrachtgever staat voor een nogal verstrekkend besluit wanneer hij een realisatietraject start op basis van een (kersverse) architectuur. De architectuur moet ondersteuning bieden bij dit besluit. De auditor kan aanvullende zekerheid geven over de aanwezige beheersmaatregelen ter borging van de kwaliteit van de architectuur en het werken onder architectuur. De auteurs hebben binnen de Rijksauditdienst ervaring opgedaan met het managementinstrument architectuuraudits. Met dit artikel willen wij onze ervaringen met de lezers delen.

De kranten staan er vol van. Weer een ICT-project mislukt bij de overheid en weer X miljoen euro’s over de balk. Als ICT’er wordt je er niet blij van. Wat gaat er fout? Veel. Ik noem een paar factoren (gezien door mijn bril).
